Viscount Hawarden

Viscount Hawarden is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The historic family seat of the Viscounts was Dundrum House near Cashel in County Tipperary until 1909 . Today the family seat is Great Bossington Farmhouse in Adisham near Canterbury in Kent .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on December 5, 1793 for Cornwallis Maude, 1st Baron de Montalt . As early as June 29, 1785, he was also awarded the subordinate title Baron de Montalt , of Hawarden in the County of Tipperary , in the Peerage of Ireland . As early as 1777 he had inherited the title of 3rd Baronet , of Dundrum in the County of Tipperary, from his older brother Thomas Maude, 1st Baron de Montalt , who on May 9, 1705 in the Baronetage of Ireland for his father Robert Maude († 1750) was created.

Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-great-grandson Robert Maude as the 9th Viscount since 2004 .

Other titles

The above-mentioned older brother of the 1st Viscount had already been awarded the title Baron de Montalt , of Hawarden in the County of Tipperary, in the Peerage of Ireland on July 18, 1776 . The title expired on May 17, 1777 when he died without children.

The 4th Viscount was also elevated to Earl de Montalt , of Dundrum in the County of Tipperary, on September 9, 1886 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The earldom became extinct when he died on January 9, 1905, leaving no male descendants. The Viscountcy and the other titles fell to his cousin as the 5th Viscount.
