Viscount Melville
Viscount Melville , of Melville in the County of Edinburgh , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Viscount family residence was formerly Melville Castle near Dalkeith in Midlothian and is now Wey House near Norton Fitzwarren in Somerset .
Award
The title was created on December 24, 1802 for the well-known lawyer and politician Henry Dundas . He had been Minister of the Interior and Minister of War in various cabinets. He later became First Lord of the Admiralty . In 1809, he refused an earliest title.
Subordinate title
Dundas received the title Baron Dunira , in the County of Perth , at the same time as the Viscountsword . This is listed as a subordinate title.
