Vitality Air is a Canadian provider of bottled air. The company established this market segment.

history

The company was founded in Edmonton in 2014 . The founders Moses Lam and Troy Paquette previously sold two plastic bags filled with air on eBay as a joke . The second plastic bag developed into a meme and achieved a price of over 100 euros. Lam and Paquette, both previously in the financial services industry, decided to offer air as a regular product. In their free time, they developed a suitable container and explored potential sales markets. The initial investment in the company was approximately $ 1 million and was largely raised by co-owner Lam. In June 2015, a first batch of 500 bottles was sold to Los Angeles . In October 2015, an order for 5000 bottles was shipped to China. In the same year, a private investor from Dubai invested US $ 500,000 in the company. At the end of 2017, the company had sold over 200,000 bottles. In June 2017, the company set up a joint venture with the administration of the South Korean district ( gun ) Hadong and a local company , which launched the product Jiri Air , whose air is extracted from Mount Jirisan . Also in June 2017, Vitality Air expanded its product range to include flavored canned air called "Vitality Air Essentials". There are now several copycat products on the market for the basic product.

product

Vitality Air collects several hundred thousand liters of air every two weeks, which is compressed and cleaned. The bottles are produced in two sizes, of which the smaller one contains three liters of air and is equipped with a spray cap, while the larger one contains eight liters of air and has a half mask for easier inhalation. According to the manufacturer, the bottle fillings should be sufficient for at least 80 or 160 breaths. The air comes from Canada's Banff National Park , near which the company founders live. The bottles are made of aluminum to make postal transport easier. The manufacturer specifies the shelf life of his product as "one to two years". The main buyers are people in major Chinese cities with high levels of air pollution. The big bottle of air there costs 100 renminbi , over 10 euros. Other sales markets are major cities in the Middle East, Korea, Vietnam and India - in New Delhi , for example, in November 2017, measured values for air pollution were in some cases almost 40 times above the limit value.

Vitality Air Inc. makes no legally assertive claims about the medical benefits of its product. There are no studies on the positive aspects of packaged air for consumers. The WHO criticizes that products such as Vitality Air signaled to residents of cities with high levels of air pollution that pollution is normal.
