Viterskalet

Viterskalet is a hiking and shelter of the Swedish hiking club Svenska Turistföreningen . The hiking hut is at an altitude of 880 meters and has 28 beds. During the hiking season from the end of February to the beginning of May and from the end of June to the end of September, the hut is managed by a hut keeper and there is a sale of provisions. Outside of this time, a security room with an emergency telephone is open. Viterskalet is the southernmost hiking hut on the Swedish long-distance hiking trail Kungsleden .

There was a first hiking hut at this location in 1925. The current hiking hut (2011) was built in 2001.

Viterskalet is located in the Syterskalet, a valley of the Norra Storfjället .

The distance to Hemavan and Syter on the Kungsleden is twelve kilometers each. After Syter there is also an exhausting alternative route over the Norra Sytertoppen, the highest point in Västerbotten County at 1768 meters . There is also a nine-kilometer path to the village of Klippen, on the road from Storuman to Mo i Rana .
