Hemavan ( South Sami child at the ch ) is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Lapland .
The place in the municipality of Storuman is 145 kilometers northwest of Storuman and 10 kilometers northwest of Tärnaby on the upper reaches of the Ume älv River , about 50 kilometers from the Norwegian border.
The European route 12 (also known as Blå vägen , "Blue Road") runs through Hemavan and leads to Mo i Rana in Norway, around 100 km northwest . There are flights from Hemavan Airport to and from Stockholm / Arlanda Airport six days a week .
In Hemavan there is the Tärna fjällpark with an exhibition showing the geology, flora, fauna and cultural and historical importance of the mountains, and a botanical garden on the mountain flora. The Vindelfjällen nature reserve is nearby and offers good hiking opportunities.
The northern part of the Kungsleden begins or ends in Hemavan .
