Stensele ( South Sami : Gierkiesovvene , umesamisch : Geärggiesuvvane ) is a place ( tätort ) of the municipality of Storuman in the Swedish province of Västerbottens län and the historical province of Lapland .
Stensele is only about three kilometers south of the main town of the municipality, Storuman . The place has its own church, to which also more distant parishes, such as the place Gunnarn belong. The European route 12 and the Hällnäs – Storuman railway line run through Stensele .
Stensele Church, opened in 1886, is Sweden's largest wooden church. It offers space for 2000 visitors, whereby the number of visitors is limited to 800 due to fire protection.
