Vice County of Rohan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The vice-county of Rohan around the place Rohan in today's French department of Morbihan came into being as a result of the construction of Rohan Castle by Alain I. de Rohan , which also gave its name to the owner family, the Rohan House .

When the male ruling family with Viscount Jacques de Rohan died out in 1527, the vice-county remained in the family due to a precautionary marriage policy. The new vice-count's family, the Rohan-Gié, reached the elevation of the vice-county of Rohan to the Duchy of Rohan a few generations later .
