Vlassis Caniaris

Vlassis Caniaris ( Greek Βλάσης Κανιάρης Vlasis Kanaris , * 1928 in Athens ; † March 2, 2011 ) was a Greek visual artist .

Life

Vlassis Caniaris worked in Rome from 1956 to 1960 , where he concentrated on the two-dimensional image and oriented himself towards Giorgio de Chirico . During his stays in Paris from 1960 to 1967 and from 1969 to 1973 the artist turned to the three-dimensional and material assembly. During the period of the Greek military dictatorship , Caniaris was only able to work in his home country from 1967 to 1969. In 1973 he was a DAAD scholarship holder ; He extended his stay in Berlin until 1975. In Berlin , Caniaris expanded his interest in sculptural-aesthetic issues to include a socially critical component: for his exhibition guest workers - foreign workers , he conducted interviews with migrants , trade unionists and economists .
