Vlastimir

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vlastimir was the son of Prosigoj, and ruled as Greater Župan in Raszien under Byzantine rule from around 825 to 860.

He was the founder of the dynasty that would later be referred to as that of the Vlastimirić . Vlastimir ruled over what is now western Serbia, northern Montenegro and eastern Bosnia , whose independence from Byzantium he achieved in 830.

In the war against the Bulgarian Khan Presian I (836-852) Vlastimir remained victor. He had three sons, Mutimir, Stroïnik and Goïnik, and a daughter.

His daughter married Krajina, son of Župan Beloje of Travunia (today Eastern Herzegowina ). Beloje and after him Krajina recognized the sovereignty of Vlastimir, he in turn elevated it to the rank of Knezen (prince). Vlastimir was followed by his three sons, who all got a partial rule, with the eldest, Mutimir , later taking over the supreme rule as Greater Župan. His brothers fled to Bulgaria.
