As Voe are in the Scottish Shetland and - Orkney Islands narrow bays designated. The word goes back to Old Norse vágr and stands for a protected bay. In particular, in the Shetlands Voe is also a toponym spread, the spectrum ranges from a few hundred meters wide bays to long to several kilometers inlets such as the well-known by its Erdöverladehafen Sullom Voe . The hole , which is widely used for this in the rest of Scotland, is limited to lakes in the interior of the two island groups. Smaller bays, which are separated from the rest of the mainland by steep cliffs, are called geo .
