A bird is a transport tool in construction . In Germany, these transport containers were mostly made of metal, later also plastic with a rectangular base and outwardly sloping side surfaces as well as a handle. They were placed over the shoulder and were used to transport mortar and bricks within the construction site.

The mortar and brick transport within the construction sites with the bird was done by unskilled workers.

With the nationwide equipment of the construction sites with cranes, the form of transport with the help of the bird became superfluous and mortar is now lifted in mortar tubs and bricks in pallets to the respective work site.
