The Abensberg Bird Park is a privately operated small zoo in Abensberg in the Kelheim district in Bavaria.
Animals
The park was fundamentally renovated in 1994 and 1995. Embedded in the natural surroundings of a 28,000 m² forest area, with ponds and watercourses, native land and water birds, but also a multitude of exotic birds from all regions of the world are shown south of the Danube on the Welschenbach. These include ratites such as emus and rheas . In addition to the birds, you can also see some mammal species such as kangaroos , alpacas and pot-bellied pigs .
Runaway kangaroos
In 2000 strangers broke into the kangaroo's enclosure, whereupon four of them ran away. Two returned unscathed, one was run over and a fourth disappeared. According to numerous press reports, this was then allegedly spotted throughout Bavaria.
