The Vogtshaus in Oschatz , built around 1200, is one of the oldest secular buildings in Central Germany. A builder is not known and, like the city founder, can only be assumed. The building is built in the Romanesque style, as shown by the trifors on the east facade and fragments of a five-arch window on the north facade. A loan letter from 1501 documents that the building, which was then used as a noble free house, came into the possession of Georg von Schleinitz auf Ragewitz, his father, before 1500, together with larger property such as meadows, ponds and forest in the immediate vicinity of Osterland Castle, which is only two kilometers away Heinrich von Schleinitz was named a Vogt of Leisnig, Döbeln and Oschatz in 1408. The late Gothic fresco paintings with floral decorations in the window niche on the ground floor of the Vogtshaus go back to Georg von Schleinitz or his son Wolfgang von Schleinitz auf Ragewitz. After the death of Wolfgang von Schleinitz, Christoph von Truchsaß on Wellerswalda acquired the building in 1526. From 1544 to 1843 the house seal house was owned by the rich cloth makers' guild in Oschatz and was therefore also known as the “cloth maker house”. The coats of arms and guild symbols in the building's hall are reminiscent of the years of cloth manufacturing.

Until the early 1990s, the house was privately owned and served as a residential building. The city of Oschatz acquired the house in 2006 and began extensive renovation work after securing the vacant building. In October 2009 the Vogtshaus was officially opened as an office building. Examples of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Art Nouveau architecture can be viewed on the Open Monument Day in the Vogtshaus .
