Voice broadcast service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Voice Broadcast Service ( VBS ., English for voice announcement service ) is a service in GSM - mobile network to make, which allows a subscriber to voice messages to several other participants.

description

The service allows voice announcements to be sent to defined groups of participants. Only certain group members are authorized to set up VBS calls. Special mobile phones that support the VBS are required. This service was first used in the networks of European rail network operators.

function

The service works very similarly to the VGCS , but there is no possibility of assigning an uplink channel to the call participants. Each call group has a unique identifier. In the SIM, the terminals keep a list of the call groups in which the subscriber is a member, as well as a list with identifiers of the announcement calls that are to be accepted. This list can be edited in the terminal.

A special channel, the Notification Channel ( NCH ), is required to inform the end devices via an announcement call .

The MSC maintains a list of subscribers who are authorized to receive a special announcement call. In addition, the MSC decides in which cells a specific announcement call is to be sent.

The network can handle an announcement call in a very resource-saving manner, since only one downlink channel is required per radio cell .

In addition to the mobile subscribers, a limited number of subscribers in the fixed network can be defined for each announcement call. An announcement call can also be started from the landline network.

As soon as a terminal is in a cell in which an announcement call is being transmitted, the terminal checks the identifier of the announcement call. If this identifier is contained in the list of the announcement calls to be accepted, the terminal begins to play back the voice data transmitted in the downlink. The active announcement call is signaled to the user.

If the user is currently on a call, the presence of an announcement call is signaled. If eMLPP is implemented in the mobile network, the current call can be suppressed, depending on the configuration.
