Voice of the Beehive are a British-American pop band founded in 1987 in London by the American sisters Tracey Bryn and Melissa Brooke Belland.
Band history
Tracey Bryn (born May 17, 1962, in Encino , California ) was on vacation in Great Britain in the mid-1980s ; she was so fascinated by London that she not only stayed, but also persuaded her sister Melissa Brooke Belland (born February 17, 1966, in Los Angeles ) to follow her. The two women were musically challenged - their father Bruce Belland was a member of The Four Preps in the 1950s , which had a number two hit in Great Britain with Big Man .
The sisters originally called themselves The Beehive Girls because of their "beehive" hairstyles; one of their demos found its way to Food Records . There they were with the former (and future) Madness - Rhythm section Daniel Woodgate (drums) and Mark Bedford (bass) and matched with guitarist Mike Jones, and Voice of the Beehive was born. First product of the collaboration: Just a City . The single generated so much attention that the band signed a contract with London Records . Martin Brett joined Bedford before the debut album Let It Bee was recorded. Her rocky pop music with lyrics about alcoholism or loneliness hit a nerve with the audience, the album and three subsequent singles became chart successes in Great Britain.
After a break of two years, the single Monsters and Angels and the album Honey Lingers came in 1991 , which led to a successful tour . In 1994 the other musicians left the band, but the sisters went on together and recorded Sex and Misery with session musicians . The album could not build on the older releases commercially. In late 1996 her record company did not renew her contract and the two women temporarily turned their backs on the music industry.
In 2003 Voice of the Beehive re-formed for three concerts with The Wonder Stuff .
