Voice server

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A voice server is a server for IP telephony over a computer network ( Internet / LAN ).

In contrast to the peer-to-peer principle of conventional telephony , in which two or more conference participants connect online at the same time , the voice server software is used for voice-supported chats on the Internet. With the voice server method, a server program for the service provider and a client program on the PC of the user / subscriber are required for this. The server is permanently online under a static host address (IP, domain ) as a fixed point of contact, while the subscribers log in to the service provider for a limited time, depending on the communication requirements, using their access data in order to communicate with the "voice chatters" that are also online. Voice servers are widely used by instant messenger and chat room providers. The community of internet gamers is one of the main user groups. Agreements in first-person shooters , strategy games or role-playing games ( MMORPG ) are useful here and create the necessary advantage over an opposing team or player. The range of commercial and freely usable voice server programs is diverse. Most software solutions offer the option of setting up various audio chat rooms on a voice server and assigning status and rights (e.g. administrator , moderator ).
