The Volcán Azul ( Spanish for Blue Volcano ) in Nicaragua consists of three young cinder cones , which were discovered by geologists on a flight in the 1960s. The three cones are located south of the Rio Curinhuas and west of the Pearl Lagoon in the Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur . They are up to 201 m high and each have a crater diameter of 50 to 60 meters. There are no reliable scientific data on the last eruption, but the craters , which are largely spared from erosion and the unusually low vegetation for a rainforest area , suggest that it is only a few thousand years old.
