The Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur ( RACCS ; German Autonomous Region Southern Caribbean Coast ), former name Región Autónoma del Atlántico Sur ( RAAS ; German Autonomous Region South Atlantic ) is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua . This and the Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Norte exist as administrative units alongside the 15 departments in Nicaragua. The two autonomous areas were created by a new constitution in 1987 and the subsequent division of the Zelaya department .
The capital of the region is Bluefields . The area is 27,407 km² with a population of around 390,670 inhabitants (2016 calculation) , which corresponds to a population density of around 14 inhabitants / km².
The Región Autónoma de la Costa Caribe Sur is in turn in twelve Municipalities divided:

- Corn Islands - archipelago
- Desembocadura de la Cruz de Río Grande
- El Ayote
- El Rama
- El Tortugero
