Carazo is an administrative district ( Departamento ) in the southwest of Nicaragua . The capital is Jinotepe .
The department has an area of 1,050 km² and a population of around 180,000 inhabitants (2006 calculation) , which corresponds to a population density of around 171 inhabitants / km².
The Carazo department is in turn divided into eight municipalities :
- Diriamba
- Dolores
- El Rosario
- Jinotepe
- La Conquista
- La Paz de Carazo
- San Marcos
- Santa Teresa
