Boaco is one of 15 departments in Nicaragua .

The capital of Boaco is the city of the same name, Boaco . It was created in 1938 as part of the Chontales department . The department has an area of ​​4,244 km² with around 179,876 inhabitants (2016 calculation) , which corresponds to a population density of around 43 inhabitants / km².

The department is in turn divided into six municipalities :

  3. San Jose de los Remates
  4. San Lorenzo
