Departments in Nicaragua
Nicaragua is divided into 15 administrative districts ( Departamentos ) and two autonomous regions (Regiones Autónomas). The two autonomous regions were created by a new constitution in 1987 and the subsequent division of the Zelaya department .
The departments are in turn subdivided into Municipios .
