Masaya is the smallest department in Nicaragua .

The capital of Masaya is the city of the same name, Masaya . The department has an area of 590 square kilometers and a population of around 325,000 inhabitants (calculated in 2006) , representing a population density of about 550 inhabitants / km² corresponds.

The economic dominance in Masaya is mainly tobacco , coffee , sugar cane , jute and corn cultivation .

The Masaya Department is in turn divided into nine municipalities :
