Jinotega is a department in northern Nicaragua with around 300,000 inhabitants.
In the north, Jinotega borders on Honduras . The boundary line is formed by the Río Coco . The capital of this department is the city of the same name, Jinotega .
The department is made up of eight municipalities :

- La Concordia
- San Rafael del Norte
- San Sebastian de Yalí
