The Río Coco , formerly known as the Rio Segovia , is the longest river in Central America . It rises near San Marcos de Colón in Honduras and runs in its upper reaches through Nicaragua , where it forms the border between the departments of Nueva Segovia and Jinotega . In the middle and lower reaches it is the border between Nicaragua and Honduras. After 750 kilometers it flows into the Caribbean Sea at Cabo Gracias a Dios . The Miskito Indians live along the river , in whose language the river is called Wanki .
