San Marcos is a small town in the Carazo department in Nicaragua .

The city has around 24,000 inhabitants (2006 calculation) and is the twin city of Jena , which is doing development work within the framework of the PIA (Proyecto Integral Agroecológio, Integrales Agroecological Project) and Biel / Bienne . The vast majority of the population earn their living as small farmers.

tourism

San Marcos is on the touristic circuit that leads from Managua via the Pueblos Blancos (White Villages) back to the capital. While the excursion tourism of the capitals contributes to the liveliness of the town center, preferably on the weekends, the students of the small university Ave María do this during the week. The tourism structure with the Hotel Casablanca and the Café Casona remains clear.
