Voldemārs Irbe

Voldemārs Irbe (born November 13, 1893 near Valka , † October 10, 1944 in Riga ) was a Latvian painter.

Life

Irbe studied from 1908 to 1911 in the Daiļkrāsotāju biedrības vakara skola (Riga's evening school for art) and from 1911 to 1913 at the J. Madernieks art studio .

He dealt with motifs on the roadside, working life, landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His preferred material was pastel. He liked to work from a dark underground.

Irbe was popular among the population as the barefoot original under the nickname Irbīte / Irbiņš .
