Blauraum Architects

Blauraum Architekten is an architectural office based in Hamburg .

history

The name of the office is not personalized. Blauraum is the projection plane for the work of several architects. The Hamburger Abendblatt reported: “They never wanted to be one of the many three-letter offices in which each of the owners positions themselves with their initials. When the four architects Rüdiger Ebel, Volker Halbach, Maurice Paulussen and Carsten Venus started their own business in 2002, they called their office in Hamburg's Neustadt district blauraum . "

Since it was founded, the Hamburg architecture firm has made a name for itself primarily with innovative conversion solutions. The office became internationally known with the conversion of a dreary Hamburg office building from the 1970s into a newly designed apartment block. The aim was to make the existing simple cuboid homely. The use of the building had become obsolete, but the reinforced concrete skeleton was still usable. The old cubature was maintained and redesigned with a varied facade.

Another change by the architects von Blauraum was implemented in a residential complex from the late 1950s on Bebelallee. The task was to combine a necessary energetic renovation of the apartment block with an expansion of the living space. 47 maisonette apartments were added by adding floors. Overall, the planning achieved the goal of doubling the living space of the settlement and at the same time halving CO 2 consumption.

With these and other projects, the Hamburg architects are showing that “supposed building ruins or building sins of the past” do not have to be demolished with clever intervention and correct planning. Even an old stock can be “breathed new life”. This applies not only to old buildings, which are given a contemporary design after processing by bluuraum, but also to new buildings.
