Volker Knappheide (born March 28, 1966 ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Knappheide learned to play football at Schwarz-Weiß Essen , from where he moved to VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga in 1985 . In Bochum he played for two years, but could not prevail against greats like Thomas Kempe and Michael Lameck : He only played seven games and scored one goal. He then moved back to his hometown club, Schwarz-Weiß Essen, for which he played for the next ten years.
