Thomas Kempe (born March 17, 1960 in Möllen ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Before Kempe turned pro in 1979, he played for TV Voerde . Kempe was invited and committed to a trial training session at MSV Duisburg through the mediation of his youth coach . He played 391 Bundesliga games for MSV, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Bochum and scored 42 goals. He was German champion in 1984 with VfB Stuttgart . The 1988 cup final with VfL Bochum against Eintracht Frankfurt was lost 1-0. At VfL he had the affectionate nickname "Brother Leichtfuß", because he mastered both grandiose moves and was responsible for frivolous ball losses. After a cruciate ligament tear , he had to end his career in 1994. Despite his good performances and several nominations, he has never played for the senior team . However, he played eleven international matches for the U-21 national team , in which he scored a goal (on April 28, 1981 in Kiel in a 4-0 win against Austria ). He made his debut on October 10, 1979 in Thorn in the 0-1 defeat by Poland . Six days later he made his debut in Koblenz for the B national team in a 9-0 win against the A selection of Luxembourg . In addition, he completed on March 25, 1987 in Tel Aviv at the 2: 1 win over the B-selection Israel one match for the Olympic selection team of the DFB .

After the career

After his active career, Thomas Kempe became a coach at the age of 34. He looked after the Dinslaken district division VfB Lohberg . In June 2006 he took over the first division club FC Tauro in Panama City , but returned to Germany after just three months. Today he works as a scout for an Austrian company that wants to bring talent from Panama to Europe. He is also an advisor to his sons.

Kempe's son Dennis currently plays for the second division club FC Erzgebirge Aue and was part of the German national team at the U-19 European Championship in Northern Ireland in 2005 . His second son Tobias also plays in the 2nd Bundesliga for SV Darmstadt 98 and took part in the 2009 Junior World Championship .
