history

Volksbank Rhede eG was founded on June 21, 1885 by 28 Rheder citizens as a “Rheder Savings and Loan Association, registered cooperative”. On July 13, 1885, it was entered in the register of cooperatives at the Royal District Court in Bocholt.

The first chairman of the supervisory board was Kaplan Wilhelm Melchers, and the 28 founding members elected Hermann Finke as the first chairman. The business was run as Rendant Anton Plagge, who worked part-time for 50 marks a year and probably managed the cash register in his private apartment.

The first office was the Deitmer house. From 1931 to 1956, the banking business was then carried out in Haus Geuting (today's Hirsch Pharmacy). In 1956 the bank moved into its first own bank building at Hohen Strasse 15. Since 1971 the head office has been at Gildekamp.

In 1967 the two savings and loan funds merged in Rhede and Rhedebrugge. In November 1974 the General Assembly decided to change the company name to “Volksbank Rhede eG”.

In 1979 the Krechtinger Strasse branch was opened. In 1984 new buildings and extensions were made at Gildekamp. In 1997 the building at Hohe Straße 10-12, acquired in 1978, was converted for the St. Gudula Public Library and for the bank's own purposes. The branch in Rhedebrugge was renovated and reopened in 1999. In 2019 the main office was expanded and modernized.

The business area of ​​Volksbank Rhede eG includes the urban area of Rhede and the Rhedebrugge district in the west of the city of Borken . The bank is represented there with the main office on Gildekamp, ​​the branches on Bocholter Straße and Krechtinger Straße and an ATM in the REAL store on Gronauer Straße.
