People's House in Prostějov

The People's House ( Czech Národní dům ) is an important building in the Czech Prostějov . It represents an architectural landmark of the place and is a cultural and social center.

history

It was planned by the Czech architect Jan Kotěra in 1905 as an Art Nouveau building and built in 1906/1907. In addition to the architect, the painters Jan Preisler and František Kysela, as well as the sculptors Stanislav Sucharda , Bohumil Kafka and Karel Petr worked on the interior and exterior decoration .

use

Every year 250 to 300 cultural and social events are held in the Volkshaus. These include theater performances, concerts, balls, social and business meetings, and company presentations. There are also many exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. The Prostějov City International Sculpture Symposium also took place here. There is also a café and restaurant on the ground floor.
