Stanislav Sucharda
Stanislav Sucharda (born November 12, 1866 in Nová Paka , Bohemia , † May 5, 1916 in Prague ) was a Czech sculptor and medalist .
Life
Sucharda was born in Podhorecký mlýn as the son of Antonín Sucharda and the miller's daughter Anička, née Šádkova. He studied first in Pardubice , then at the Vienna Art Academy and continued his studies in figurative art with Josef Václav Myslbek at the Prague School of Arts and Crafts .
In 1892 he received a prize from the Vienna Künstlerhaus for his lunette "Lullaby" . Sucharda initially created numerous plaques and medals with fairy tale and fable motifs as well as commissioned works a. a. for the Prager Sparkasse, the Wilson train station , the Landesbank and the New Town Hall in Prague's Old Town .
Sucharda began his main work in 1898, a monument to František Palacký. As head of the “Mánes” art association, in 1902 he was responsible for Auguste Rodin's first exhibition outside France. Together with Jan Kotěra , he financed the construction of the exhibition pavilion in Prague's Kinský garden. In 1915 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in Prague.
He was the brother of the sculptor and restorer Vojtěch Sucharda .
