The Adult Education Center Minden (VHS Minden) is a special purpose association of the East Westphalian city ​​of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia and serves adult and further education .

history

The VHS Minden was founded in 1919 after the First World War . The model was the adult education center founded shortly before in Bielefeld. The chairman of the commission for the management of the VHS Minden was the then mayor Carl Dieckmann . However, interest declined sharply in the period that followed, and after the inflationary period the adult education center no longer appears in the records of the city of Minden. After the Second World War , the VHS Minden was re-established, but this time too the number of listeners dwindled and operations came to a standstill.

On July 22, 1957, the VHS was re-established. The first director was the vocational school director a. D. Lucke. 1971 Realschuldirektor a. D. Wilhelm Krieger elected. In 1976, the VHS Minden changed from an association to a special purpose association due to the 1974 Law on Continuing Education and was given a full-time director. The association initially existed with the cities of Porta Westfalica and Petershagen and the municipality of Hille. Vosswinkel was the director from 1976 to 2002, and Udo Witthaus was director of the adult education center from 2002 to 2007. Marco Düsterwald is head of the adult education center (2020).

On April 11, 2011, the association meeting unanimously decided to include the VHS Bad Oeynhausen in the association. This enabled the two adult education centers in Bad Oeynhausen and Minden to merge. The first joint program appeared at the beginning of the semester on February 6, 2012.

The Adult Education Center Minden is operated as a special purpose association of the associated municipalities. Organs of the association are the association assembly and the association chairman. There is also a conference at the VHS Minden. The representatives of the listeners, the lecturers and the management of the Vhs work in it to ensure that courses are planned and carried out as required.
