Carl Dieckmann (born May 11, 1879 in Elberfeld , † March 8, 1955 in Wuppertal -Elberfeld) was a German local politician of the DDP at the time of the Weimar Republic . From 1923 to 1933 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Minden in Westphalia .

Life

Carl Dieckmann studied law in Cologne and had a doctorate in law since 1906. In 1908/09 he was employed by the city administration in Barmen (today Wuppertal) and from 1909 to 1911 at the city administration in Rathenow , most recently as a magistrate's assistant. Before he took office as Lord Mayor, Carl Dieckmann, who is considered to be left-wing liberal, had been Deputy Mayor Dr. Hans Becker and head of the police in the city of Minden. During the Kapp Putsch in 1920, he repeatedly denied President von Campe's call for the Minden police to be used against the workers' council. In 1922, the city councilors of the SPD and DDP concluded an agreement that provided for the replacement of Lord Mayor Hans Becker with Carl Dieckmann in the 1923 election. Dr. Dieckmann was at that time chairman of the Minden local association of the DDP.

The post of 2nd mayor should not be filled again, but the social democrat Hermann Dröse should be elected as an alderman, which was the highest office of a social democrat in the city administration of Minden. At that time the SPD had 14 city councilors, the DDP 10 city councilors, and the conservative "Bürgerliche Vereinigung" comprised 12 city councilors. Since the bourgeois city councilors saw themselves robbed of their influence, they resigned their seats in the city council assembly . The SPD suffered a heavy defeat in the local elections in 1924, Dr. Dieckmann remained Lord Mayor until 1933. After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was first on leave in July 1933 from his post in 1934 and eventually dismissed from the service.

After his release he worked as an employee of the city administration in Rathenow and as a lawyer and notary. He was the author of various legal writings.
