Ernst Althaus

Ernst Althaus (born February 19, 1889 in Berlin , † April 21, 1977 in Herford ) was a German lawyer and Lord Mayor of the cities of Minden and Herford.

Life

After graduating from the Askanisches Gymnasium Berlin on April 1, 1907, Ernst Althaus studied law in Freiburg and Berlin . On March 23, 1911, he passed the legal traineeship at the Berlin Court of Appeal . As a trainee lawyer at the Jüterbog district court and at various judicial authorities in the greater Berlin area, the assessor exam followed on April 1, 1915 . Ernst did military service from 1915 to December 16, 1918 and was a lieutenant in the reserve. After the end of the war he was employed as a consultant in the Reich grain department and then in the municipal administration, most recently as a magistrate's assistant. Initially on leave for informational employment at the Halle (Saale) district office, the assignment to manage the district office as deputy came on October 1, 1921. His election as the second mayor of the city of Herford fell on December 9, 1921. Finally, Althaus was on April 23, 1930 elected Lord Mayor of the city of Herford. After his leave of absence in May 1933, he became provisional mayor of the city of Minden in July 1933, and in July 1934 he was appointed mayor with the title of mayor. The delegation to the city commissioner of Gotenhafen fell on April 5, 1940, but was canceled at the end of May 1940 with the commissioning of the first alderman of the city of Münster. As early as July 1940, he was seconded to the Reich Commissioner for the Occupied Dutch Territories and was head of the department for Dutch police matters. From October 1944 until the end of the war he was employed in the price monitoring office of the Minden District President and soon retired for “health reasons”. He later worked as an author of administrative and legal articles. Althaus was a member of the NSDAP , SA-Scharführer in 1935 and Hauptsturmführer of the SA in 1941.
