Volkspark Kaiserslautern

The Volkspark is a recreation area in the east of Kaiserslautern .

history

The park was opened as an exhibition area in 1925 with a craft show. From around 1935 onwards, in addition to Hermann Hussong's three exhibition halls, it housed a swan and pheasant farm and a deer enclosure . An air raid destroyed the halls in 1945, only remnants of the facility and the pond remained.

From 1959, the Volkspark , which only got its name that year, was set up in its current form as a natural recreation area with walking paths as well as play and sports facilities. In 2001 a bandstand was built. Both this and the rest of the area are used for a wide variety of cultural events, such as a “morning pint concert” on Sundays. The “Legendary Medieval Market” was also held there.
