People's Council of Thuringia

The People's Council of Thuringia was the parliamentary organ of the community of the Thuringian states (community representation) before the state of Thuringia was founded on May 1, 1920. According to Article 9 of the "Community Treaty on the Union of the Thuringian States" of January 4, 1920, the People's Council exercised the legislative power within the community.

The People's Council was composed of representatives from the individual states. The total number of members of the People's Council was 42. The individual states accounted for:

There were also the same number of alternate members for each state.

elections

The elections to the People's Council took place in the state parliaments of the individual states from May 23, 1919 (Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt) to July 4, 1919 (Saxony-Meiningen). The People's Council met 31 times between December 16, 1919 and June 11, 1920. The members of the State of Saxony-Coburg, the majority of which voted in a referendum on November 30, 1919, to join Bavaria and against Thuringia, only belonged to the People's Council until April 30, 1920.
