The Latschau elementary school is located in Latschau in the Tschagguns municipality in the Montafon in Vorarlberg . The elementary school is a demolition-free public school with a focus on reform pedagogy and Montessori.

history

The school was founded at the end of the 18th century as a small elementary school with initially only one classroom. Due to a lack of space, changing lessons were held from 1945 onwards, and in 1949 an additional room was rented in an inn and set up as a classroom. At the end of the 1940s, the Councilor Arnold Durig campaigned for a new building, which was decided by the local council in 1948. The school was called "Hofrat Durig Schule" and the street name still reminds of it today. The municipality received the building site from the Vorarlberger Illwerke as a gift.

Years 1 to 8 were taught in two classrooms. There was a work room that later served as a gym. The school year 1968/69 reached its highest level with 64 students. In 1975 a kindergarten was set up in the schoolhouse.

The steadily decreasing number of students made a closure likely. At the same time, a parents' initiative was looking for rooms for their "Montessori in Montafon" project. From then on, the small school was continued as a primary school with a focus on reform pedagogy and Montessori.

program

The Latschau elementary school teaches its students in mixed classes. The pedagogy of the small school is based on the approaches of reform pedagogy and the principles of Maria Montessori. The premises of the elementary school were newly adapted in 2016 and now offer five classrooms, which give the children optimal conditions for free, individual learning. The small school is not only attended by children from the village of Latschau, but also offers pupils from all over the valley the opportunity to attend school.

A grading of the school achievements only takes place from the fourth grade.
