Volta voltage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In electrochemistry , voltaic voltage is understood to be the difference between the external electrical potentials , which are due to the excess charges of opposite signs at the phase boundaries .

The name goes back to the Italian naturalist and inventor Alessandro Volta .

Together with the difference in the internal electrical potentials called the galvanic voltage , this gives the total potential difference between two phases . The different types of potential differences play a role in the exact treatment of galvanic cells .
