Volta is an impact crater on the extreme western edge of the front of the moon , so it is sometimes invisible as a result of the libration and, when visible from Earth, is strongly distorted. It lies west of the Oceanus Procellarum , north of Galvani and northwest of Repsold . The western edge is partially covered by the smaller Regnault crater and touches the edge of Stokes . The crater rim is relatively heavily eroded.
