From the Staal
Vom Staal (also vom Stall , de Stabulo , von Staal ) is the name of an extinct family from Solothurn , Switzerland . It produced several important politicians. The first Solothurn citizen of the family was Hans vom Staal , who probably came from Wangen im Allgäu and was naturalized between 1450 and 1456. In 1787 the Solothurn branch of the family went out and in 1809 a branch in Porrentruy . The family was ennobled (nobility letter from Heinrich III. From 1577) and belonged to the patriciate of the city of Solothurn; Since 1487, their coat of arms (issued by the Roman-German King Maximilian I ) in gold was a griffin leg , growing from the upper edge with peacock feathers, then according to the nobility letter of 1577 a gold griffin leg in black.
