3dfx Voodoo 3
Voodoo 3 is both the name of a 2D / 3D graphics chip from 3dfx and the graphics cards based on it .
Like its predecessor, the Voodoo Banshee , the Voodoo 3 was developed as a full-fledged 2D / 3D graphics chip. After the delayed release of the Voodoo 3 in mid-1999, there were delivery bottlenecks due to insufficient production capacities at 3dfx. The card was also not completely convincing technically. Like its predecessor, it only offered 16-bit color depth, while the competitor Nvidia with its TNT 2 already offered 32-bit color depth. To mitigate this shortcoming, 3dfx added a 22-bit post filter with the newer driver versions, which subsequently rendered the finished image with 22-bit color depth instead of the normal 16-bit.
