Vorarlberg hospital operating company
The Vorarlberg Hospital mbH (KHBG) is the operator of all regional hospitals in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . The hospital operating company is wholly owned by the state of Vorarlberg and operates the Mehrerau sanatorium and two nursing schools in addition to the five public state hospitals . The KHBG is based at the largest regional hospital in the city of Feldkirch .
In 1979, the state of Vorarlberg was the first Austrian state to decide to outsource its public hospitals to a company under private law, in which the state should continue to be a sole shareholder. This concept found successors in all other federal states in the following years. Today the Vorarlberg hospital operating company employs around 3,300 people and cares for around 210,000 patients annually.

The Vorarlberg hospital operating company operates five state hospitals:
- Bludenz Regional Hospital
- Bregenz Regional Hospital
- Feldkirch State Hospital
- Hohenems State Hospital
- Rankweil State Hospital
The Rankweil State Hospital is run together with the Feldkirch State Hospital as a specialty hospital for psychiatry and neurology. All other state hospitals are run as so-called standard hospitals. In addition, the KHBG maintains its own nursing schools at the Feldkirch and Rankweil locations . In addition, the hospital operating company also runs the hospital in the Sanatorium Mehrerau hospital .
