vtiger CRM is free, open source software for customer relationship management (CRM). The software is based on the PHP scripting language and the MySQL database . Implementations have already been carried out with PostgreSQL and Oracle databases . Linux , Windows and Unix systems are supported as operating systems.
history
vtiger CRM was started as a spin-off from SugarCRM with the aim of creating an open source CRM software that covers the functionality of SugarCRM and Salesforce.com . Version 1.0 appeared in December 2004. The developer of the same name, based in India and the USA, is vtiger .
Range of functions
In addition to campaigns for marketing purposes, vtiger CRM also includes modules such as leads and sales potentials to support the sales process. The offer and accounting system as well as a simple inventory management system is also integrated. There are also functions for storing services and service contracts. Actions to easily generate orders and invoices from offers can also be found in vtiger CRM. A customer portal exists as an add-on for customer access to ticket and FAQ functions.
In addition, you can create your own views with various filter rules. The software supports numerous languages, including German. Using plug-ins , vtiger CRM can be integrated into Microsoft Outlook , Microsoft Office and Mozilla Thunderbird and as a toolbar in Mozilla Firefox .

At the annual presentation of the CRM Market Awards, the trade magazine CRM regularly counts vtiger CRM among the market leaders in the field of open source CRM, immediately after SugarCRM. The T3n magazine describes the use of the software in the PB Factoring of Postbank , the "impressive [...] various possibilities of vtiger CRM" highlights and praises "the large and active community". In a comparative test, heise 2006 sums up that “currently only SugarCRM and its offshoot Vtiger” offer sufficient ease of use “for 'normal' users”. A detailed comparison test of open source CRM solutions highlights the “very large range of functions”, “good office integration” and “appealing intuitive interface”. The software "can definitely compete with many proprietary CRM systems".
