Vue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vue (from the French vue , "view angle", "view" or "Sehsinn", in German an outdated educational foreign word for "(beautiful) view" (cf. " Bellevue "), "(beautiful) sight") is the name of a software product line from the US software manufacturer E-on software . The product line is continuously updated and is currently (May 2013) in version 11.5. The software enables natural-looking, realistic 3D graphics of landscapes and interiors to be generated. The Infinite and xStream versions offer the largest range of functions, but there are also slimmed-down versions ( Pro Studio, Esprit, Easel ) for users who require fewer functions.

Functions (sometimes only included in the Infinite or xStream version)

  • Realistic simulation of light and earth atmosphere conditions
  • So-called "ecosystems" offer the possibility of creating realistic landscapes.
  • 480 materials are predefined. It is possible to create other materials.
  • Correct calculation of reflections and refraction.
  • Animation and creation of films (tracking shots).
  • Preview functions and the ability to only render certain areas.
  • Import and export functions and interaction with various other 3D programs ( Lightwave 3D, Maya, Cinema 4D ) in the xStream version .
  • Script support - with the help of Python scripts, scenes can sometimes be created and changed fully automatically.
  • Distributed computing - with the help of the additional program RenderCow , the rendering of complex scenes can be distributed over several computers. Vue itself only needs to be installed on the host computer.
  • Multiprocessor support.
  • Both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are supported.

Plants and Vegetation

The main focus in Vue is the creation of photo-realistic exterior shots. Various predefined plant and tree models are supplied for this purpose. Thanks to the so-called " SolidGrowth " technology, each plant produced is different. All plants can be greatly modified in form and shape. There is also the option of integrating other models into the program.

Script support

The versions Infinite and xStream offer the possibility to control the program with the help of Python scripts. However, not all functions and parameters are available in this way. For example, predefined atmosphere models can be loaded, but they cannot be modified. Despite various calls and requests from users in the developer's own forum, it is unclear whether this problem will be remedied in the foreseeable future.

Exemplary uses

Industrial Light & Magic used "Vue 5" to fill various scenes in Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Caribbean 2 with plant life and add fog.
