Vulcano di Fango Sernio is a 1990 m below sea level deep-sea mountain , specifically a mud volcano , in the Drake Strait of Antarctica . It rises 185 m from the sea floor west of Elephant Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands .
Scientists from the BSR project carried out between 2003 and 2004 on board the research vessel Explora discovered it. It has been named after Monte Sernio , a mountain in the Carnic Alps .
