Heat equator

The heat equator, also called thermal equator , connects the points with the highest mean annual temperature on earth, usually in the form of isotherms . Strictly speaking, there is no coherent thermal equator, but only a zone of different widths within which the highest annual mean lies.

The reason why the thermal equator is not a circle, but an irregular line or zone is to be found in the different altitude and the uneven distribution of land and sea. Since the largest contiguous land masses with a continental climate are north of the equator, this zone is predominantly north of the earth's equator and there in lower regions and has an average temperature of 26 ° C to 28 ° C.
