Broken cubes

A broken cube is a damage pattern in wood .

The destruction of parts of the wood structure after drying causes longitudinal and transverse cracks in the wood, creating a typical image. The edge length of the “cubes” ranges from a few millimeters to several centimeters, depending on the cause; However, the dimensions of the cubes alone do not allow any reliable conclusions to be drawn about the cause.
