Württemberg Church History Online
Württembergische Kirchengeschichte Online (WKGO) is a project of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and the Association for Württemberg Church History .
prehistory
The aim is a web-based presentation of the Württemberg church history, which on the one hand meets scientific criteria, but on the other hand is aimed at a broader public. The concept was developed from 2010 to 2014 by the State Church Archives Stuttgart and the State Church Central Library. The implementation of the digital presence on www.wkgo.de was carried out by the Stuttgart-based company B-FACTOR according to the specifications of the project team. The site was activated in 2015.
Content and functionality
The content-wise central elements of the portal are an epoch part, a topic part, a regional part, an institution part, a person part as well as an area sources and literature. The people area is divided into a personal database (around 36,000 entries), individual biographies and portraits of the Reformation history. The personal database is fed from the following sources:
- Pastors' book of the Duchy of Württemberg (1534–1806),
- Personal database of the regional church archive,
- Online finding aids for the personnel files in the regional church archive,
- Directory of all scholarship holders of the Theological Monastery of Tübingen (1534–1931),
- Parish book of the Kingdom of Württemberg (1808–1919).
The Sources and Literature section contains, among other things, an overview of the holdings of the regional church archive and a whole range of more detailed archival finding aids in the submenu Archival Finding Aids.
Part of the project is also a blog in which authors from the State Church Archives in Stuttgart report in short articles about their work, events and finds on the history of the church in Württemberg.
