w / k - Between Science and Art ( w / k ) is an internationally oriented, bilingual online journal with peer review that went public in November 2016. It deals with the individual science - art connections that exist with visual artists and also with other aspects of the major topic of "art and science".
Content and structure
w / k consists of seven areas.
Individual studies by, about and with visual artists
In the areas 1-3 contributions by artists , contributions about artists , interviews with artists , the aim is to work out the individual science-art connections that exist with visual artists in individual studies as precisely and comprehensively as possible and to develop the artistic concepts on which they are based to enable a deeper understanding of these art forms. It is characteristic of the w / c profile that these individual studies proceed according to uniform principles so that results that are comparable with one another are achieved.
Individual studies by, about and with scientists
Area 4 Art- related science deals in a manner comparable to that shown in relation to areas 1–3 with those scholars who make use of artistic concepts / methods / results in their teaching, research, and specialist publications. Here - according to the same uniform principles - the diverse individual science-art connections and the scientific concepts that guide them are worked out.
Area 5: General information on "Art and Science"
Area 5 is intended, among other things, for philosophical reflections on the relationship between science and art, for critical comments on "art and science" texts, for the development of an "art and science" theory. In addition, reflections on topics such as “Psychology and Art”, “Neuroscience and Art”, “Biology and Art” have their place here. The discussion about the current relevance of the Visual Aesthetic Sensitivity Test developed by Karl Otto Götz in the 1970s also belongs to area 5 - as well as the longer-term pro-and-con discussion about concepts of artistic research.
Area 6: About w / k
Area 6 is the place for texts that present the program of the online journal, report on innovations in the journal and provide information to the authors.
Area 7: Aesthetics & Art Theory
Area 7 is reserved for aesthetic and art-theoretical contributions that explicitly establish a connection to the major topic of “art and science” and to what has been worked out in areas 1-4.

Peter Tepe is the founder and editor of w / k . The core editorial team also includes Anna-Sophie Jürgens and Till Bödeker. Further editors are: Alexander Becker (philosophy), Irene Daum (psychology, neuroscience), Angela Krewani (media studies), Peter Lynen (law), Markus Schrenk (philosophy).
